Types of Edge Banding Materials
Edge banding comes in different materials, allowing you to choose the best option based on the type of furniture:
✔ Plastic (PVC, ABS):
These are the most common materials used for edge banding. PVC is widely used for budget-friendly furniture, while ABS is a more premium option as it is eco-friendly and more durable. Both offer a variety of colors and textures, making them versatile for different furniture styles.
✔ Melamine Edge Banding:
Made from paper soaked in special resins, melamine edge banding is an affordable option. It is easy to apply using a household iron or heat gun. However, it is less resistant to moisture and damage, making it suitable for furniture parts that don’t experience heavy use.
✔ Natural Wood Veneer:
This is a high-end option used in premium furniture. Made from real wood (such as oak, maple, or ash), veneer edge banding gives a natural look and texture. It is environmentally friendly and aesthetically pleasing but tends to be more expensive. Some types come with a pre-applied adhesive for easy application.
